BMW E46 M3 Turbo


There's a new wave of very powerful supercars hitting this planet, and they're taking no prisoners. This new breed of supercar blends luxury and refinement along with enough power to pull a semi truck in the fast lane. These creations are part BMW, part HorsepowerFreaks (HPF) with BMW supplying the luxury and basic powerplant, and HorsepowerFreaks supplying enough power to propel a passenger from 0 to 60 in less than 3 seconds with a top speed of over 200mph. These BMW M3 supercars currently come in 3 different stages. Stages 1 and 2 rely on the factory powerplant and stage 3 comes complete with a motor rebuild to lower the compression. All three stages have very similar powerbands and they all make a "significant" amount of power. All three stages are designed to run on different fuels with the simple flip of a switch. All of this power is provided thanks to the M3 Turbo Kits by HPF. This BMW turbo system blends safety and reliability with an incredibly driveable powerband. Designed with state of the art components to maximize fuel economy and minimize turbo lag these M3 turbo kits produce gut wrenching torque immediately when called upon. BMW's traction control works hand-in-hand with the HPF engine management and comes on-line to minimize wheel spin when necessary. The powerband is surprisingly linear and predictable in each and every gear giving drivers of varying experience the confidence they need to handle such powerful machines.

Generating this much power reliably on engines with zero to over 100,000 miles on them requires a very sophisticated and proven engine management system. HorsepowerFreaks teamed up with AEM to create this amazing hardware and software that plugs directly into the factory DME connectors and allows precise control of the new turbo system, dual vanos and the drive by wire. This plug-n-play system is designed specifically for turbo applications and works in harmony with the factory DME allowing the use of all factory BMW controls and features.

There's always a debate between turbocharging and supercharging, but one thing is clear, driving a supercharger takes more energy as it's driven by the crankshaft while turbochargers are driven by exhaust energy that is nearly free. Creating factory like reliability with supercar performance mandated the use of proven Precision turbos. The HPF M3 Stage 1&2 turbo systems utilize a journal bearing Precision T67 turbo, while the Stage 3 turbo system utilizes a ball bearing liquid cooled Precision 74GTS turbo. To maintain precise, reliable and safe boost control, HorsepowerFreaks teamed up with Steed Speed to develop a turbo manifold that won't crack, break, warp or tarnish. This manifold was designed for quick spool as well as high flow and is entirely ceramic coated to keep underhood temps "below" factory levels. Paired with these two piece turbo manifolds are Tial 44mm V-band wastegates. Those that know boost know Tial is the best in the business and the Tial 44mm V-band is what a majority of racers use. Chilling the intake charge is done via an extremely efficient bar-n-plate intercooler designed specifically for the E46 M3. All of this pressurized air requires significantly more fuel that comes by way of an additional fuel pump (Stages 1 & 2), and two additional fuel pumps for Stage 3. All three stages utilize HorsepowerFreaks high impedance 750cc injectors while stage 3 uses an extra 1200cc injector for race fuel mode.
